Freedom is NOT Free

Celebrating Our Heroes This 4th of July

Dear Kolbe Family Foundation Community,

As we celebrate the 4th of July, it's essential to remember that "Freedom is Not Free." This Independence Day, we encourage you to reflect on the sacrifices made by our military service members and veterans. If you love your freedom, take a moment to thank a military service member or a veteran.

A Reflection on Our Veterans

While today we honor all who have served, we must not forget the difficult times many faced, especially our Vietnam Veterans. During and after the Vietnam War, these brave individuals were met with hostility and disrespect upon returning home. They were spat on, had food and drinks thrown at them, and were subjected to obscene insults. Despite this, they stood firm, fulfilling their duty to serve our country. It was a national shame that still haunts many.

Fortunately, our nation has come a long way in recognizing and honoring our veterans. Today, there is a widespread acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by our military personnel. Communities across the country now celebrate our veterans with parades, ceremonies, and various forms of public recognition. Programs and organizations are dedicated to providing the support and care they deserve, from mental health services to job placement programs. This shift reflects a growing understanding and appreciation of the invaluable contributions made by our service members and veterans.

How You Can Honor Veterans This 4th of July

  1. Attend a Local Parade or Ceremony:

  • Show your support by attending events that honor veterans. Your presence is a simple yet powerful way to show appreciation.

  1. Volunteer Your Time:

  • Many organizations supporting veterans welcome volunteers. Whether it's helping out at a local VA hospital or participating in a charity event, your time and effort can make a big difference.

  1. Write a Thank You Note:

  • A heartfelt message can mean a lot to a veteran. Consider writing thank-you notes to veterans in your community or participating in letter-writing campaigns.

  1. Donate to Veteran Causes:

  • Financial contributions to veteran-focused nonprofits help fund essential programs and services. Every dollar counts in supporting our heroes.

  1. Educate Yourself and Others:

  • Learn about the history and experiences of veterans, especially those who served in conflicts like the Vietnam War. Sharing this knowledge can foster greater understanding and respect.

A Remembrance Prayer

As we honor our veterans, let us also take a moment to remember and pray for them:

"Heavenly Father, we thank You for the brave men and women who have served our nation with honor and courage. We ask You to bless them abundantly for their sacrifices. Comfort those who are suffering, heal those who are wounded, and bring peace to those who are troubled. Help us to show our gratitude through our actions, and may we always remember the price of our freedom. Amen."

Our Commitment

At the Kolbe Family Foundation, we strive to honor and support these heroes through various initiatives, including Honor Flights, service dogs for veterans, and supporting veteran education programs. We believe in recognizing their sacrifices and providing them with the respect and support they deserve.

This 4th of July, let's come together to appreciate our freedom and the individuals who fought to protect it. Thank a veteran or service member today.

Warm regards,

The Kolbe Family
